A game in which the purpose is to collect and train small monsters called Pokémon through battle. Pokémon is Japanese for Pocket Monsters.

Gold and Silver Versions

Released for the GameBoy Color, the story line of these two games takes place after the story line of Red, Blue and Yellow. The game takes place in a different world named Johto, and provides 251 Pokémon for players to find and catch. Pokémon can be traded with the Red, Blue and Yellow versions by the use of a link cable. Gold and Silver were also the first Pokémon games to offer breeding.

Red and Blue Versions

These were the first two games to come out. You play as a beginning Pokémon trainer. The objective of the game is to try and catch all 150 Pokémon in the game. You also are attempting to become the greatest trainer of all time.

Yellow Version

The Yellow version is a combination of both Red and Blue, and is based loosely on the Anime cartoon show. The main change is that you have a Pikachu follow you around.

Leaf Green and Fire Red Versions

Leaf Green and Fire Red are remakes of the original Red and Blue for the Game Boy. This version features the original 151 Pokémon with enhanced graphics and gameplay, such as double battling. These versions are further enhanced by the National Pokédex, allowing you to catch a staggering 386 Pokémon.

Crystal Version

Pokémon Crystal is a slightly different game to the Gold and Silver versions. New features include extra Pokémon animations, Pokémon in different locations and a sub-plot about one of the game's legendary Pokémon.

Ruby and Sapphire Versions

Released for the GameBoy Advance, these Pokémon games take place in a completely new world. 200 Pokémon are available to find and catch - this includes a selection of Pokémon from the older versions, and a selection of new Pokémon. The aim of the player is to collect all of the Pokémon, and to become the Pokémon champion. Players can trade their Pokémon between Ruby and Sapphire versions only by the use of a link cable.

Emerald Version

Pokémon Emerald is a remake of Ruby and Sapphire. It follows the story of Sapphire with the Pokémon exclusive to it. It features a new area, the Battle Frontier. Many of the improvements in Leaf Green and Fire Red are found here as well. They also make some minor improvements to the breeding system.
